Week 4 (one month on Saturday)

One of the Missionaries that Clay hangs out with all the time in another trio got transferred to the City.  I can't remember his name.  I need to start taking notes when we talk on Mondays. 

Clay and another Missionary (not his companion but one they hang out with all the time) bought these Vikings Jerseys.  He said they got them because they were super cheap because the player no longer plays for the Vikings.  haha! He thought it was a great deal. 



They possibly might be having too much fun!! Just another day playing football. 

Talked to our boy yesterday. I'm typing this up because I know one day he will want to remember these things.  And he doesn't love writing emails, he said he doesn't have much to say...but he tells us a bunch of stuff when we talk to him, so I will document it instead.  

Clay will hit his one month mark on Saturday.  This is the day he will finally get to talk to his Mission President on a zoom meeting.  That will be good for him. 

He had two members feed them this week.  

The first was the Relief Society President.  She fed them pizza, which usually would be a home run for Clay but he said it had onions & peppers on it.  He said he ate a piece anyway because he didn't want her to feel bad but he ate it really slow so she wouldn't offer him another piece. The Relief Society president has twins that are about to turn 8, she wants the missionaries to give them the lessons even though they don't need them.  Clay is really excited to start lessons with these kids. 

The second family made them Chicken Cordon Bleu.  He said it was SO GOOD, but they are a really skinny family so they only gave everyone 1 piece.  LOL (What does that say about us) haha!

They did several service projects again.  He said they have been working at the zoo putting mulch around all the trees along with prison inmates.  He said the prison inmates are really cool and he enjoys working with them.  (I told you, Clay doesn't judge and gets along with EVERYONE! Heart of gold)

The other service project he talked about was for a guy that was around 60 years old, and Clay said he was high as a kite.  They were helping him clean his yard (really just moving stuff from one place to another) because the guy was a hoarder. He said he was a crazy guy telling them crazy things the whole time they were working with him.  That was an experience.  

They had a Mission Tour this past week from 2 brothers from the area seventy.  Clay said this was a 4-5 hour meeting but he really enjoyed hearing from Elder Nielsen.  He was a NFL player for the Houston Oilers.  Clay said he was super cool to hear from.  

Other things Clay mentioned this week. 

He bought an American Flag for $5.00 at Walmart and hung it in their apartment.  And he said that there has been 2 thunder storms this week.  They are super cool to watch, since there are no mountains, you can see all the lightning miles and miles away.  

I wondered if Clay would get home sick, but as of right now...I would say that is a hard NO!  He says it's just a party all the time.  He is enjoying everything about it.

We received this letter from Clay's mission president  on September 4th, 2020 We are thrilled with the news that the St. Paul Temple will start “phase 2” on Monday, September 7.  This means that almost 60 of our missionaries will have the opportunity to receive the endowment.  We are beginning to make a schedule for “missionary” temple sessions that will take place over the next 8-12 weeks.  This will be a complicated process as we work around missionary-related efforts—zone/district conferences, interviews, service, finding, and teaching.  We will also need to work out some logistics   before   our missionaries receive the endowment.  For example, they need to have garments as we do not have a distribution center in Minnesota.  They will NOT need their own temple clothing as the Temple will be able to accommodate   missionary   needs.   Some of our missionaries have asked if their parents would be able to attend the templ...

Week13 - Finally the Temple

Well he finally made it to the Temple for the first time after 3 weeks of home MTC and 13 weeks out in the Mission Field.  He said he enjoyed it and that he was there with 14 other Missionaries.  Only 4 of them had never been through before.   I must admit, the entire day I felt sad and guilty that I wasn't there with him.  But had to keep reminding myself that we both agreed that us not coming would be best for both of us.  I hope that we will be able to attend the temple again sooner, rather than later.   This whole covid thing is just making things so different.  Clay said the Temple was SO TINY.  They have a stake center next to the temple that dwarfs the Temple.   I think it's neat he gets to experience the temple in a different location other than Utah.  I almost thought Clay was just as excited about this Chicken restaurant as he was about going through the temple  The Stake president took them here to eat afte...

Week 18 - 1st Transfer - day before Thanksgiving

 Well, well, well..... Clay just received his first transfer on his Mission.  He was SO EXCITED when he found out where he was going.  He is getting transferred to Ashland Wisconsin.  This is a little town (population is about 9000) right on the bay of Superior Lake.  When I googled the place, the pictures were amazing.  Once he got there and sent pictures, they equally looks amazing.   When Clay first got his Mission Call, he said he hopes that he will be able to serve by the Great Lakes, well that hope just became a reality.  His new Missionary companion has only been out 6 week longer then he has and his name is Elder Dallin Hamby from California.  Clay secretly hopes he know how to surf.   I learned how the Transfers work.  You find out if you are getting transferred on a Monday, then you will leave that following Wednesday to the Mission house, then you will get dropped off and your new companion will pick you up and ...
