Week 5 : Service and games

Image
Clay tells me that he is fantastic at baseball and probably should have planned in High School.  This action photo is actually pretty convincing.  He said that not a lot happened this week, just service (yard work for members) and playing sports with all the other missionaries.   He said he is still having the time of his life and loves hanging out with his champions and the other missionaries.  This will be the last week with Elder Leatham before he goes home.  He is pretty sad to see him go.    The service crew!!

Safe and Sound

Got this from Clay's Mission President on Friday Morning August 28th, 2020  Dear Parents,   As you may know, there was an unfortunate outbreak of public violence in Central Minneapolis last evening (Thursday, August 26). You may have seen recent reports and images in various media sources that could raise your concern for the wellbeing and safety of those in Minneapolis. With this in mind, I want you to know that ALL of our missionaries are safe and sound. In fact, almost all of our missionaries were not even aware of the unrest. In taking a position of abundant caution, they are instructed to adhere to every local safety protocol and I am monitoring the situation closely.  I understand the concerns you may feels for your beloved children and wanted to alleviate any unnecessary concern you may have.  Please feel free to contact me or the office staff with any questions or concerns.  Please know of my gratitude and admiration for our devoted missionaries.  ...

Week 4 (one month on Saturday)

Soldiers Field Veteran's Memorial One of the Missionaries that Clay hangs out with all the time in another trio got transferred to the City.  I can't remember his name.  I need to start taking notes when we talk on Mondays.  Clay and another Missionary (not his companion but one they hang out with all the time) bought these Vikings Jerseys.  He said they got them because they were super cheap because the player no longer plays for the Vikings.  haha! He thought it was a great deal.  They possibly might be having too much fun!! Just another day playing football.  Talked to our boy yesterday. I'm typing this up because I know one day he will want to remember these things.  And he doesn't love writing emails, he said he doesn't have much to say...but he tells us a bunch of stuff when we talk to him, so I will document it instead.   Clay will hit his one month mark on Saturday.  This is the day he will finally get to talk to his M...

Week 3

Clay (in the orange) playing baseball with the other Elders in his area. Clay said that he didn't know he was so good at baseball, he said he should've played it in High School.  (Something the doctor told us he could never do because of his eye sight)  He got road rash from sliding bases.  The last several pictures are from the hike that Clay and his companions went on.  Most of the pictures are of the Mississippi River.  Clay said they call these hills Mountains, but they really don't know what mountains are. LOL The Mountain Dew wall.  Clay said this was there before he came.  They don't touch this wall now and just throw the Mt. Dew cans away now.  He said his diet pretty much just consists of Mac & Cheese, frozen pizzas and Mt. Dew.   He did say that a member fed them this week and it was fried chicken....the best fried chicken that he had ever had.   Clay is loving every minute of his mission.  He loves his compa...

Corn Fields Everywhere

Hey everyone I guess it's about time to write another email. My first couple weeks of my mission have been so much fun!! I learn new things every day and I am always smiling and laughing. I've met so many great people already. I am In another trio again which is really fun. My companions are Elder Leatham and Elder Cutchen. Elder Leatham has been out for 23 months and this is his last transfer and Cutchens has been out almost a year. I'm in the Kasson branch which is really small. The chapel is tiny. Kasson is a little town outside of Rochester. It's pretty cool. We are always hanging out with the Rochester elders they are fun people. Little did all you guys know but Minnesota has corn every where it's crazy. The corn never ends. I'm loving it here. I miss you all. Love Elder Gunnell
